Good ol' Powerpoint work

I spent time tonight putting together my portion of the powerpoint. I spent a lot of time on it and did a lot of research to look behind the framing of the cartoon. I searched out the facts that the editorials are based on and found it is mostly based on truth or sarcasm of the truth. Pretty interesting stuff! I am now working on the editorial cartoon that we are turning in for the project...hoping it turns out well!!!

Housekeeping things!

Alright boys, don't forget that tomorrow we are meeting in library room 145 at 2:00 to present to Dr. Cooper.

Also- don't forget to print out peer evaluations and have them ready to be turned in at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Finally, please make sure everything you want to be on the blog is there. Meaning, all forms of journal entries so Dr. Cooper knows who has worked on the project and how much, etc. So if it isn't there, please update the blog for your information. We've all done a great job of sharing the weight and I want everyone's grade to reflect that.

Bishop Eddie Long final

So I worked for over 3 hours on my part of the power point which deals with Bishop Eddie Long. I started by getting pictures of him which I found on google images. Then I decided I wanted to have some background information on him just so everyone knew who he was. I found this on his Biography section of www.newbirth.org (the church website) I then search for articles about the scandal, and found three really good ones that I used as the basis of my presentation. The articles can be found at:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/09/22/Bishop.long.sex.lawsuit/index.html?iref=obinsite
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/10/28/bishop.long/index.html?iref=allsearch
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130370393

These articles then led me to video clips found on youtube and cnn.com- all of which you will see in the presentation. My section might be a little long but I was finding some really good information that dealt with the theme we chose to go with (same-sex marriage in the Christian church)

I found this really good clip, that Steve might even be able to use, although I did add it at the end of my presentation as well. CNN interviews a black pastor who changed his stance on same-sex marriage. He used to be opposed to it (because that is what the church said) and is now for same-sex marriage. He talks about the struggles he has faced and the beliefs behind the Black Church's stance on only homosexual marriage. You can find the clip here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl-Hpro8-8s

Those are just a few of the clips, and news articles I used. I sent my project to Steve so he can put them all together for our presentation tomorrow.

Braden and I both have time tomorrow before the presentation so we are going to meet to go over any last details that need to be discussed. Steve- if you have time, we are meeting at 1 in the library. If not, then we will see you at 2 in room 145 to present to Dr. Cooper.

Nice work on all of this guys!

Group Meeting 10/28/2010

Steve, Braden and I met Thursday in library room 143 from 4:30-6:00 to discuss our project. We started out by going over the coding sheets I had done prior to the group meeting, just to make sure everyone agreed. We then told Steve about our idea for our editorial cartoon and Braden showed us a sketch he had done for it. We talked about what we liked and what to change and ended up with what we think will be a great cartoon. Finally, we discussed the way we are going to do the powerpoint project. Each of us is going to take the cartoons I had assigned earlier in the week, research them and do the slides for them. We then are going to email our slides to Steve and he is going to make sure everything looks good and put the pieces together to make the final slide show.
